Audi Car Key Replacement

Losing access to your Audi — whether it's an A4 sitting in a Yorkville parking garage or a Q5 locked up near the Distillery District — is more than an inconvenience. Audi vehicles use some of the most sophisticated key and immobilizer technology on the road today, including rolling-code transponders, proximity smart keys, and multi-function remote fobs that communicate directly with the vehicle's ECU. Getting back on the road requires a technician who understands Audi's specific programming protocols, not just a generic key cutter.

Frequently asked questions

Can you replace an Audi smart key or proximity fob without going to the dealership?+

Yes. Our technicians carry professional automotive key programming equipment that is capable of cutting and programming Audi proximity smart keys and remote fobs on-site. We handle the full process — cutting the emergency blade to your vehicle's mechanical code, pairing the fob to the radio-frequency system, and enrolling it in the immobilizer — right at your location. You do not need to tow your vehicle anywhere. We serve locations across Toronto, including downtown, Midtown, Scarborough, Etobicoke, and North York, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

How do you verify that I own the vehicle before making a new key?+

Ownership verification is a non-negotiable step that we complete before any key cutting or programming begins. We ask for a combination of documentation that typically includes your government-issued photo ID, the vehicle registration, and proof of insurance. The documents must match. In some cases, particularly for all-keys-lost scenarios, we may ask for additional confirmation. This process protects both you as a vehicle owner and the public, and it is something we take seriously on every single job regardless of the circumstances.

What factors affect how much an Audi key replacement will cost?+

Several variables go into the final quote: the year and model of your Audi, since newer platforms with proximity key technology involve more complex programming than older transponder systems; whether you need a single key or multiple keys enrolled; the type of key hardware required, including fob shells and transponder blanks; the time of your call, since our technicians are available at all hours including overnight; and your location within the Toronto area. All of these factors are assessed before we give you a price — and that price is confirmed and fixed before any work starts. There are no surprise charges added after the job is complete.

How long does an on-site Audi key replacement typically take?+

The time varies based on the complexity of the job. A standard transponder key for an older Audi model — where a key code is available and the immobilizer only needs a single key enrolled — can often be completed in under an hour from the time our technician arrives. A full all-keys-lost procedure on a current-generation Audi with a proximity smart key system involves more steps and may take longer, as we need to communicate with multiple vehicle systems and verify the result thoroughly before we leave. We give you a realistic time estimate when we take your call so you know what to expect.

My Audi key fob still locks and unlocks the car, but the car won't start. Is the transponder the problem?+

That is a very common symptom of a transponder issue. In Audi key systems, the remote-frequency portion of the fob — which handles locking and unlocking — operates on a separate circuit from the transponder chip that communicates with the immobilizer. It is entirely possible for the RF side to function normally while the transponder chip has failed, been demagnetized, or lost its programming. In that case, the immobilizer does not recognize the key when it is inserted, and the engine will not start even though the doors respond to the fob. Our technicians can diagnose and reprogram or replace the transponder component without replacing the entire key system if that is all that is needed.

I have a spare Audi key — can you program a new key to work alongside it, or does the whole system need to be reset?+

Having a working spare key is a significant advantage. In most Audi models, a working key can be used to authenticate the programming session, which means we can enroll a new key into the system without performing a full immobilizer reset. This is typically a faster and less complex process than an all-keys-lost procedure. We will assess your specific vehicle's key management system when we arrive and use the most efficient approach available. The spare key remains fully functional after the process is complete, so you will exit the job with two working keys rather than one.
